Oconostota Fall Fellowship 2015 Recap

This year the Oconostota chapter blew away all expectations for the 2015 Fall Fellowship. The attendance was the best in over 5 years, with 21 youth members and 16 adults, for a grand total of 37! We had arrowmen from 10 out of the 13 troops in our district present this weekend.

We started decorating our 3 tables in the dining hall with Christmas decorations. Several people brought various inflatable Santa Clauses, small Christmas trees, lights, and several rolls of christmas wrapping paper to wrap many boxes of various sizes place all over the area near our table. Right next to our table was the “Wood badge garden with a waterwheel” that leaders let us decorate also. We stayed in “Underwood campsite, with many arrowmen staying in the cabins near the top of the camp sleeping in their Enos. On Friday night, several arrowmen left the dining hall after cracker barrel to return back to their campsite and the adults went to sleep. Some arrowmen stayed up to 2:00 a.m.(one even stayed up until 5-6 am). The scouts were very sleepy Saturday morning and some took naps.

Around 10:00 a.m., several arrowmen from our chapter and the lodge got tools and went up to work on the new trail up to the OA circle. We dug up roots and trimmed branches and plants that were blocking the trail, and some arrowmen came behind us to rake the trail into a smooth surface. The trail was used for the first time at the brotherhood ceremony at 8:30 that evening. After lunch, we gathered around the flagpoles to see the time capsule, and some of our leaders considered putting our chapter flag in the time capsule. Around 2:00 p.m., a few chapter adults set up our gift wrapping relay race, where we had teams of 3 compete for time to wrap 3 gifts one scout at a time. Many Oconostota arrowmen showed up to compete in the chapter games. Many other chapter members also came down to the meadow to compete in other activities such as the inflatable bouncy house, boxing ring, and slip n’ slide.

Overall, we had great weather with highs around 85 and lows at 60 degrees at night, and our chapter also won the spirit award in the Lodge. We had a great time at the Fall Fellowship, and hope to see everyone at an even more outstanding Spring Fellowship in 2016!

Yours in Service,

Justin Kujath, Chapter Chief

A special thanks to Mr. John Boseman for getting us chapter information and a report on the Fellowship for the weekend. Also, a special thanks to all of those who sent pictures of the fellowship.
